A Summertime Staple - SnoHut
An Anchor Since 1987
SnoHut first opened in 1987, and David and Lisa Bishop took over the business 16 years ago. David grew up in Taylors and passed SnoHut every day on his way to Wade Hampton High School. When the opportunity came to carry on the tradition, it felt right. “We always enjoyed people and activities we could do with our family, so it just made sense,” David says.
And carry on the tradition they have—intentionally. The Bishops didn’t want to change what worked. The menu, the flavors, the setup, the experience—it’s all designed to feel familiar, even decades later. Whether you’ve been away for five years or fifteen, SnoHut still feels like home.
Cool Flavors, Warm Connections
SnoHut boasts an impressive 65 flavors at its original location, all made from the same recipes used 37 years ago. Quality is key, and the Bishops work hard to make sure every cup is just right. That attention to detail (and flavor) keeps people coming back year after year, and season after season.
It’s a seasonal operation—typically open April through August—and the team runs it like a well-oiled machine. They now operate a second location at Century Park in Greer, where they’ve been for five years through a partnership with the city.
Between the two stands, they employ a team of 11. Many employees return year after year, and the Bishops have loved watching young workers grow up, move on, and even bring their own kids back for a treat.
The Memories That Matter
SnoHut isn’t just about shaved ice. It’s about the people. The Bishops know their regulars. They’ve seen students head to prom, couples stop by after weddings, and families with newborns swing through on the way home from the hospital. There’s even been a proposal.
In a region full of rapid growth and new development, SnoHut is a taste of the past that still feels perfect in the present. “With all the change in Greenville, we’re consistent,” David says.
So the next time the heat sets in—or you just want a reason to smile—pull into that familiar parking lot, order your favorite flavor, and remember what makes Taylors such a special place to be.
You can find SnoHut at 3243 Wade Hampton Blvd, Taylors, SC 29687 open from 1-8 pm Monday - Saturday and 2-8 pm on Sundays.
