Spring Happenings

Happy Spring, everyone! Somehow, we are already in the second quarter of the year, and there are a lot of things happening.

As I meet people in the community, I’m frequently asked, “I just don’t know how to get involved.” People have an innate desire to be involved in things happening around them but don’t know where to get started.

My advice: show up. Being present and taking a risk is where it all starts. The next part, though, is even more critical: connect with someone else who showed up. A bit of a tree falling in the woods can happen if you show up to an event and don’t speak with anyone. Going to an event will get you part of the way there, but engaging with others who took the time to do the same thing you are doing is vital.

As a matter of probability, most people you encounter will not be people you “jive” with. That’s the point. Yes, it’s great when you encounter someone with whom you are on the same page, but we learn and grow more by interacting with real people who believe different and even opposite things from us.

So this month, as spring has officially sprung and more events and happenings start, well, happening, get out there and connect with others. We’ve got several opportunities this month to get involved in things:

Along with these events, plenty of other things are happening around and about. Check them out below, but regardless, my challenge to you is to pick something, go make a connection, and then do it again. Building community is a cumulative effort involving lots of connections, and the more people intentionally pursue it, the stronger our community will be.
