July Updates

Hey everyone, happy July! We are halfway through the year, and I hope the summertime allows you a little respite from the spring and fall business. As we are in the middle of summer, I wanted to give you a brief-midyear update on things we've written about here before and update you on what Taylors TownSquare has going on.

  • Greenville County did raise taxes: As a follow-up to last month’s newsletter, at a meeting held late on June 23, Greenville County Council voted 8-4 to adopt an FY2023-2024 budget that included a 7-mill tax increase. This budget was an amended form of the original budget that included an 11-mill increase. The amendment shuffled some funds around, cut a few items from the budget, and approved a few new fees, allowing the millage increase to drop from 11 to 7 mills. I won’t rehash all of the math I laid out in that post from last month (you can read it here), but using my example of a $300,000 home from that post, the tax increase in the County-approved budget would mean that the county portion of your tax bill will go up by roughly $84/year from the County’s increase. There were strong feelings on both sides of this debate, and you can read more about the meeting here. The FY2024-2025 Budget still needs to be adopted; you can expect more about that in July.

  • We're excited about the Taylors Business Association: We’ve been working hard to create opportunities for businesses in Taylors to connect and learn together. You can learn more by attending the July 20 meeting at The Farehouse at the Taylors Mill at 5:30 pm. Sign up for updates on the Business Association here.

  • We’ve launched Coffee & Connect Events: We’ve been working on giving Taylors residents an opportunity to talk about Taylors things. To that end, we’re excited to launch Coffee and Connect in Taylors. Come out to Junto Coffee for Saturday coffee, pastries, and conversation. Our next Coffee and Connect is coming on August 26 at 9 am! You can learn more and see the full calendar on our Get Involved page.

  • Chick Springs is closer to becoming a park: As we’ve shared before, we’re working to transform Chick Springs into a park. We believe we’re nearing the end of the acquisition process with the current property owner, and we are beginning to put together a team to help with this process, and that’s where you come in. We need a few key individuals interested in diving into the complex but rewarding process of seeing this site transformed. You can learn more about what we are doing here and email Mike Iatesta if you want to join our team.

  • We’re working to bring together nonprofits: Last year; we launched the Nonprofit Council as a quarterly opportunity for nonprofits in the Taylors area to come together. We would love to invite any nonprofits in the Taylors' area to join us for a meeting on July 18. If you’re interested in attending, please email Rebekah Cobb.

  • We’re looking for board members: We are always looking to collect applications from candidates for our Board of Directors. We evaluate applicants as slots open up, so if you’ve not already, please complete the board member application here.

Thanks for reading along, everyone, and I hope summer treats you well!
