75 Years of Service in Taylors

The Lions Club began in Chicago in 1917 and has since grown into the largest service organization in the world, with 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries. While their work now includes youth programs, disaster relief, hunger initiatives, mental health awareness and more, their original mission still stands strong: promoting vision health. Inspired by Helen Keller’s 1925 challenge to be “Knights of the Blind,” the Taylors Lions carry on that tradition right here at home.

Service Close to Home

In Taylors, the Lions focus on what matters most to neighbors—access to eye care, support for youth and schools, and relief for those in need. They host vision screenings and provide eyeglasses and surgeries for community members who can’t afford them. They brighten the lives of assisted living residents with parties, help local schools with resources, and respond to needs as they arise. The club also has a hand in bigger projects, like sponsoring new Lions groups in Chick Springs and Blue Ridge, expanding the reach of Lions’ service in the Upstate.

Celebrating and Looking Ahead

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Taylors Lions Club, with a celebration planned for November 1. Their annual poinsettia sale on December 6 will help fund future service projects, continuing a legacy of giving back. With over 100 Lions Clubs across South Carolina, Taylors is proud to be part of this network of volunteers making a difference.

How You Can Get Involved

Becoming a Lion means joining a group of neighbors dedicated to making Taylors stronger. New members are welcomed through orientation and sponsorship, but there are plenty of ways to get involved including donating to projects, volunteering at events, or even dropping off used eyeglasses at the clubhouse.

The Taylors Lions Club welcomes anyone who wants to serve their neighbors and make a difference. Whether as a member or supporter, you can be part of building a stronger, healthier, and more connected Taylors.
